Glitter Tiles

This tutorial is written for Paint Shop Pro 8 and Animation Shop.  It should be possible to do in later versions if you have Animation Shop.  You can get a similar effect with PSP 7 but its Noise effect works differently.

Create a new image 50 x 50, raster, transparent (it will be bigger when we are finished)

Click on the Flood Fill tool

On the Materials Pallet, set the foreground material to gradient and then click on the gradient block to set the options as follows:

Gradient = Foreground - Background
Style = Linear
Angle = 0
Repeats = 7

Click on the canvas to fill it with the gradient.

Layers menu, Duplicate

Layers menu, Duplicate (to give you 3 layers in total)

On the Layers Pallet, the top layer should be selected

Adjust menu, Add/Remove Noise, Add Noise - Select Gausian, Monochrome, 40 (use a higher number if your gradient colours are dark).

On the Layer Pallet, click on the middle layer.

Add Noise again, increasing the setting by 5
(The change is hidden under the top layer, so you won't see it)

On the Layer Pallet, click on the bottom layer

Add Noise again, increasing the setting by another 5
(Again the change is hidden by the layers above)

Image menu, Resize

Width = 100 pixels
(use the pull down list to change between % and pixels if necessary)
Height  = 100 pixels
Resample Using = ticked and use the pull down list to set to Pixel Resize.
Resize All Layers = Ticked

With the bottom layer still selected on the Layers Pallet...

Adjust menu, Sharpness, Sharpen (change is hidden by the layers above)

On the Layer pallet, select the middle layer

Adjust menu, Sharpness, Sharpen (change is hidden still)

On the Layer Pallet, select the top layer

Adjust menu, Sharpness, Sharpen

File menu, Save As - give the image a name and then pull down the list for "Save As Type" at the bottom and select Animation

Open Animation Shop

File menu, Preferences, General Program Preferences

Click on the Layered Files tab

Set the options as shown - so that the top box is unticked and "Keep layers as seperate frame" is selected.

File menu, Open - set the File Type to Paint Shop Pro

Locate and open the file you saved from PSP

View menu, Animation (to preview your animation)

Save the file as a .gif
