 Seamless Tiles

Seamless tiles can be used to flood fill any selection, or be set as the fill (background) material for text and vector shapes.  All you have to do is have your pattern tile open in PSP and then set the foreground material to pattern, click the material box and then set it to your pattern tile, which will be at the top of the list.

If you have PSP 8 or higher, you can use the built in Seamless Tile filter.  If you have an earlier version, you can use Simple Filters and get similar, but not identical seamless effects.

Other filters can create seamless effects too.... MuRa's Copies, Eye Candy 4000 Marble and many others.

Seamless tiles are usually between 100 and 200 pixels square, but if you are using them as a fill in PSP you can scale them down if you want the pattern smaller.

The PSP Seamless Tiling filter (Corner Tiling Method) or Simple Filters Quick Tile can be used to turn any square into a seamless tile.  You could even keep it as simple as adding a tube in the center of a colored background and then applying one or other of these filters.

MuRa's Pole Transform and MuRa's Copies - both available HERE They are the two on the right of the block of 4.

You can download the Simple Filters set from HERE

Example 1

Create a new image 150 x 150 pixels, transparent background, raster.

Click on the Flood Fill tool

Match Mode = None
Blend Mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

Set up the materials pallet.....

Set the foreground colour to a color of your choice and set the material type to gradient.

Set the background color to white or a very pale shade of your chosen color.

Click the foreground material block (the gradient) and set the following options for the gradient.

Gradient = Foreground - Background
Style = Radial
Angle = 0
Repeats = 5
Horizontal = 50
Vertical = 50

Fill the canvas (image) with the gradient.

Tick the Show Tiling Preview box

Tiling Method = Corner
Direction = Biderectional
Horizontal Offset = 0
Vertical Offset = 0
Transition = 0 to 50
Corner Style = Linear or curved
                        (whichever effect you prefer)

Example 2 - Spirals

Create a new image 150 x 150 pixels, transparent background, raster.

Click on the Flood Fill tool

Match Mode = None
Blend Mode = Normal
Opacity = 100

Set up the materials pallet.....

Set the foreground colour to a color of your choice and set the material type to gradient.

Set the background color to white or a very pale shade of your chosen color.

Click the foreground material block (the gradient) and set the following options for the gradient.

Gradient = Foreground - Background
Style = Linear
Angle = 45
Repeats = 7

Fill the canvas with the gradient

Effects, Distortion Effects, Polar Coordinates (PSP 8 or higher)

Polar to Rectangular
Edge mode = Repeat

If you have PSP 7 or earlier you can get the same effect using MuRa's Pole Transform using these settings:

Y Start = 0
Y End = 200
Centre X = 100
Center Y = 100
Radius Start = 0
Radius End = 140
Angle = 0
Inverse = unticked
Fill Background = tick it and then untick it
Radius Mode = Normal (from the pull down list)

Effects, Image Effects, Seamless Tiling

Tiling Method = Corner
Direction = Biderectional
Horizontal Offset = 0
Vertical Offset = 0
Transition = 0
Corner Style = Curved

Or (if you have PSP 7 or lower) Simple Filters - Quick Tile.

For this effect make these changes after you have filled the image with the gradient...

Use MuRa's Pole Transform

Radius Mode = Perspective (all the other setting as above)

Example 3 - Tubes

New Image 150 x 150, Black background, Raster

Layers, New Raster Layer

Click on the tube tool, and select a tube from the pull down list on the Options Pallet.

Set the Scale to 50 (on the options pallet) and click in the center of the canvas.  The tube needs to fill about 3/4 of the canvas.  If its too big or too small, undo, adjust the scale and try again.  Or you can use the deformation tool to adjust size or move the tube.
